coordinator-terminator

the new year starts with a big kick-off. I am getting promoted!
yes, to become the Coordinator of the water sector for DED. Coordinator is one level below Country director., so a real important job. i applied for the job since my previous "boss" left us in November and i took over some of his duties since then.
The HR department at DED Headquarters were calling my decision "brave" cause i am rather to young and have worked for the DED only since half year. But with good back-up from the country director and my predecessor, i finally, after 2,5 months of waiting, got the job! no other suitable candidates appeared.
puh, that will be a challenge. more work (more money though too), and a kindergarten of 6 colleagues in the next 2 years.
the best part of it is, that i am send for another 6 weeks to germany, getting a special training to become more buro-crazy! so here i come again.

pantoffel

that is my new cat PANTOFFEL, and she is a very cute white, grey, orange one. Cat& dog, they are getting along now, not perfectly, but from time to time she sleeps on my lap, while Molly in front of my feet. And i think my little stupid dog is anyway loosing in their fights. But sleeping is both their hobby that unites them in peace.

Pantoffel does like to sleep sometimes during night at my side, or even behind my Apple computer. Very sympathic indeed.
And the best thing: she is chasing ... aeh... cokroaches. The mice of africa. This is veeeery practical. Not that i have much of this cockthings in my house, but a few, and now i am in the possession of the natural, biological killer(cat) to fight them.

back in Uganda- the pearl of slow internet

Okay, first day at work after holidays is always frustrating, wherever you are, but especially after having such 2 weeks nice Christmas holidays in germany.
yes, very nice indeed. when I arrived on a breathtaking early foggy morning in duesseldorf, to my surprise there was even snow! Just like I wished. (okay it was a result of a specific weather condition paired with industrial fumes, but at least…!), and the first mulletwine on the Christmas market was fantastic. The 2nd too, and the 3rd maybe to much….
I met my good-old-friends, very-long-time-no-see-friends and we-are-getting-our2nd-child or likewise we-are-getting-married-friends. Managed to even squeeze in 2 business dates, and eat good food, and drink enough drinks. No stress, all in a good relaxed flow. So nice. HAPPY TIME (as Vicky would say) and also stock up with . errr….maybe 6 out of 20kilos of luggage allowance with books& music magazines & chocolate for Uganda.
And as usual: sorry to those ones I haven’t met this time.
Hope you all had a good Christmas season and a big time!

Now back in Kampala, and at least happy that I could have been picked up from Entebbe airport. As Kenya’s post election phase was and still is rather instable, it had effect on the fuel transport from Kenya to Uganda. Availability was very limited, and prices went up to 10.000 USH per litre (almost 5 euro). Now it seems to get better, and as I live now in walking distance to the office its not a big problem.
Maybe more on Kenya later. So far I have a huge load of work the next days, and a staple of mails to check, while trying to adjust to the f…. slow internet.
