Hip Hop in Uganda
thanks to a link from Alex, i surfed into the depths of Uganda HipHop. sure, hiphop is the most popular music together with some sort of local reggae/ragga. the biggest artist is Bobby Wine, Baby cool, and CHAMELEON, which are singing in local languages.
Music is big business, with CHAMELEON beeing so rich, that the funds for his weddings accelerated the national budget in the Health sector! there are some local small local music stalls, where you can go and sample your own cd. but besides, the level of ugandan hiphop & reggae is still low. I've been on 'big' concerts, which were only playback! but biiiiig hiphop posing as well.
this post is from an upcoming/running documentary film (diamonds in the rough), featuring the SqUAD, which i never heard of here, but are apparently really good.
