in northern Uganda, part of the heavy cival war taht took place the last 10 years, the LRA hosted young kids as soldiers to their army. hooked on drugs, raped, deproved of home and family as often beeing killed by the LRA or the army, these kids soldiers have deep broken souls.

in my ugandan research i stumbled over these US student initiatied movement
INVISIBLE CHILDREN making kids aware of soldiers, displacement and the of not having fair chances to study and dream.

i do not quiete get the website though, but the activities and some trailers from northern Uganda are astonishing

World Water Day

as an engineer working in the environmental field, the UN wold water day in March 22nd is always worth remembering what crucial situation we are living - and i am working- in. China actually is showcasing all the worlds problems in just one country: extremly water scarcity in the north-west (even below the international scarcity standrad) that forces the government to build the incredible south-north water transfer project from Yangtse to beijing for 500 km! heavy floddings in the south due to rainfall/climate change, 3 of the mayor world rivers: yangtze, Yellow and mekong, all start in tibet, the damm problems of changing ecosystem and forced migration and last- but worst: water pollution absolutely everywhere.
worldwide around 1,2 Billion people are without safe water supply.

i know water is mayor important for our lives
but i often see during my work that just delivering water is creating another, often totally neglected, problem: wastewater. Sure: its nice to impress with your water project, but noone wants to impress with a toilet or sewerage. And the figures in sanitation are even worse: 2.6 Billion people without safe sanitation (toilet). That is why we say as World Toilet engineers often state:

WATER iS LIFE, SANITATION IS DIGNITY

so langsam mache ich mich schlau was das Leben in Africa angeht, und momentan interessieren mich vorallem die Berichte ueber CHINA IN AFRICA. dieser Bericht hier ist hervorragend, zwar leider aus dem ausland geschrieben, aber hat dennoch interessantes zu berichten:
- china investiert in Rohstoffe, Oel, etc... auch in Laendern die politsch sehr unstabil sind , und weiterhin kommt personal und Material meistens aus China und uebergehen lokale Arbeitskraefte
- unterstuetzt Korruption und Bestechungen, bestaetigt von Transparency International die china als weltweit 2t groessten Auslands bestecher nennen
- china ist nicht nur Africa's 3t groesster Waffenlieferant hinter Russland und Deutschland (sic!), noch dazu beliefern sie die kriegerischten Regimes und Rebellentruppen

aber zuallererst sollte nicht nur China fuer seine Afrika Politik kritisiert werden - obowhl das natuerlich auch wichtig ist - sondern die nationalen Governments die den wirtschaftlichen und monetaeren Nutzen der chinesischen investitionen auch fuer das ganze Land nutzen sollten, und nicht nur fuer eine kleine elitaere Gruppe oder Geldbeutel.

indie music in china

Ja, beijing ist die indie musik hauptstadt chinas. und nun ja, irgendwie sieht man immer die gleichen bands, aber egal.
von meiner leiblings maedchen band: Hangonthebox hab ich wohl schon mal geschrieben

auf YouTube und auf r danwei tv findet ihr auch kleine filme ueber chinas indie rock musik. der neueste film hier ist uber tagteamrecord's band lonley china day, man koennte auhc sagen: die radioheads china's. aber das ein bisschen falsch. sehr peotisch, sehr noelig, sehr ruhig, manchmal auch langweilig. aber naja. im interview seht ihr auch Matt, der american husband von Heike, der auch zusammen mit Ian (fame of last summer affair ) und Kyle die 2 woechige indie night schmeisst.

in china gibt es leider so gut wie keine streetart. garffitti und stickers und selbst normale werbe-plakate sind kein teil der waende. schade. der trend wird wahrscheinlich erst in den naechsten jahren kommen. ein grund muss wohl sein, das es ueberall einfach zu lebhaft ist und immer und jederzeit menschen auf der strasse sind, um ungestoert Graffitti auf die waende zu spruehen. die chinesische form von Grafitti sind die ueberall hingespruehten Telefonnummern, die alles anbieten: arbeit, gefaelschete Paesse, nieren, nutten, ect.
very charming finde ich, das mit allen grautoenen die nummern uebergepinselt werden, bis wieder neue gesprueht werden. sisyphos auf chinesiscen waenden.
